| The Managers Perspective on the Treble
First and foremost can I take this opportunity to say how much of an honour it was for me to both play and manage Greenwell Star FC.
At the start of the 2006/2007 season everyone knew there was a good feeling within the club but no one including myself was prepared or even dare to think what we were about to achieve. From the first match of the season when Greenwell brushed aside Moat Park Rangers with an astounding 6-0 win in Londonderry Park, The result put the first team top of the league and that is where we remained for the duration of the footballing year. That result on the 19th of August was the catalyst that in fact fired the east end Ards club to a record breaking season.. With 17 straight wins under our belt Greenwell suffered the first league defeat of the season to the old enemy Portavogie Rangers away from home. 3-1 Was the final score and although we could not manage the league program undefeated nothing was to deter us from league glory. Greenwell clinched the league trophy on the 21st of April 2007 with an astonishing 15-0 victory away to 82nd old boys. We finished the season with stats of PL 26, W 21, D 2, L 3, Goals for 117 against 30. While everyone within the club were celebrating my own attention turned to the Cup and Shield where both myself and my assistant Marty Orr knew we were now capable of achieving something special. In both finals we again were paired with Portavogie Rangers. First up was the Billy Allen Shield final and we came out on top with a narrow 2-1 win with goals from Jonny Heron and Steven McCormick. A week to the day later and this time it was the Sittlington Cup final. The boys were comfortable winners Greenwell 4 Portavogie 1. This time the goal haul was, Heron 2, McCormick and Derek Watson. The record was set and as Greenwell Star became the first Newtownards side to do The Treble a set of remarkable statistics were as follows in all competitions. Played 36, Won 31, Drawn 2, lost 3 Goals for 164 Goals against 38 Appearences GoalsCraig Robson 19 1Redmond O'Neil 24 2James Sproule 28 17Ricky MIlligan 22 1John Banford 22 2Marty Orr 20 0Ryan Shaw 26 3Gareth Anderson 23 8Daniel Ferguson 26 11Steven McCormick 29 32Jonny Heron 27 51Derek Watson 23 28Marty Curry 18 2Kyle Anderson 14 3Scott Crawford 10 1

Greenwell Star remain close to my heart and its the first result I look for on a Saturday.
YOU CAN TAKE THE MAN OUT OF GREENWELL BUT YOU CANT TAKE GREENWELL OUT OF THE MAN.
